BRAL celebrates 50 years of urban activism with retrospective expo

01/10/2024

For 50 years, BRAL has worked tirelessly for a livable Brussels. What began as a citizens' movement, based on the need to stop the lightning-fast and often uncontrolled urban development in Brussels, grew into a powerful platform that brought urban residents and policy makers together in the struggle for a livable, just and sustainable city. BRAL is committed to inclusive and democratic urban development, protecting green spaces, making mobility more sustainable, defending affordable housing and improving air quality. Always with the belief that a city belongs to everyone and should remain so.

The exhibition “Verbeelding aan de macht” marks 50 years of urban activism, in which BRAL has been a pioneer from the beginning in mobilizing residents, influencing urban policies and defending a livable city for all. Through half a century, BRAL has shown time and again that the imagination of citizens can be the key to structural change. BRAL remains committed to the premise that innovative ideas and collaboration among residents are the way to a better future. “Verbeelding aan de macht” symbolizes that ongoing vision: a Brussels where dreams of an inclusive and green city shape reality.
